MDI special report: Religious Minorities in Armenia PDF Print

Keywords: Caucasus, religion, media content, study/report, conflict, social diversity models

Religious freedom has been a key issue in Armenia since the breakup of the Soviet Union. Nothing has been more controversial than the freedom of Armenians to stray from the Armenian Apostolic Church - and the freedom of foreign missionaries to tempt them to do so.

In May 2004, MDI brought together an eight-person team of Armenian print journalists to produce an in-depth investigation of the situation of religious minorities in Armenia. Included is material on evangelism, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, and others - and how the Armenian Apostolic Church and Armenians in general are reacting to them. The special report was published in six Armenian newspapers. (MDI special report, May 2004)
