Keywords: South East Europe, English, media diversity, study, report, ethnicity & race.

An MDI commissioned research report on press coverage of ethnic minorities in South East Europe. The report is based on content analysis of newspapers in 10 countries and territories: Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania and Serbia.
It concludes that coverage of ethnic minorities is related to the quality of inter-ethnic relations in each country; that the press reflects widespread and deeply-rooted stereotypes and prejudices; and that journalistic practices that contribute to intolerance are rife throughout the region.
