Scripps Howard Immigration training program calls for applications

Deadline: May 15, 2010

Region: North America (USA)

The International Center for Journalists is now accepting applications from U.S.-based journalists for a program under the theme “Beyond the border: Exploring, Covering and Understanding the Immigration Phenomenon.” Deadline: May 15.

The program, the Scripps Howard Immigration training program, will bring together 10 journalists from the U.S. Spanish and English-language media for a week-long training on how to cover immigration issues using multimedia tools.

The digitally focused program will teach immigration journalists how to use new technologies to engage their audiences, and will be led by a digital media expert. It will include opportunities for immigration reporting. Panelists will include key immigration policy makers, researches, and representatives of pro and anti-immigration groups.

The program will help journalists understand the legal, social, economic and political impact of the immigration debate while providing new skills on how to cover this complex issue using the latest technology.
