‘Media and civil society organisations should work together in partnership to secure funding from donors to fund content, training and other projects to improve media coverage of diversity and related fundamental human rights’ – this was one of the main themes in the action plan produced from discussions at the ‘Media for Diversity in New EU Countries’ Conference, held in Bucharest on 28-30 May 2010.
The conference brought together decision makers from media and civil society organisations in new EU countries, to discuss media coverage of diversity and related fundamental human rights, best practice, and develop an action plan for future work in this area.
The action plan, derived from the discussions at the conference, consists of practical actions for media and civil society organisations, as well as policy makers at the national and EU level, designed to improve media coverage of diversity and related fundamental human rights. The next stage of the project is to implement the action plan in new EU states.
