High level representatives from the Egyptian media, and international media figures, will gather at the ‘Journalism of Diversity for an Inclusive Society’ conference in Cairo on 10 March 2012, to discuss how to put inclusive reporting at the heart of responsible and ethical journalism and to examine the legal, professional and financial environment in which media work.

It will be an open debate on the role of the media as a forum for national dialogue, and for building an editorial culture that respects diversity.

Discussions will focus on the major challenges facing journalists and outline perspectives for professional solidarity and a new vision of ethical, pluralist and accountable media.

The conference is being organised by the Media Diversity Institute, with the support of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) and the British Council, in cooperation with UNESCO Cairo.

It is part of a two year programme, ‘Embracing Free Expression, Diversity and Inclusiveness: Rebuilding post-revolution Egyptian media’, to encourage the emergence of responsible Egyptian media based on international standards and principles of free expression, diversity, inclusiveness, transparency and public accountability.
