Media Relations Workshop for NGOs from EU States

The Media Diversity Institute is seeking applications for a media relations workshop for Civil Society Organisations/NGOs who are involved in combating discrimination, to be held in London on 27-28 October 2011.

The goal of this workshop is to raise the capacity of NGOs to communicate their messages to and through the media and it will be followed up by online support and onsite consultancy to help participating organisations in their work combating discrimination. It will be run by experienced media relations trainers and BBC journalists, Tim Grout-Smith and Lily Poberezhska, and will consist mainly of hands-on practical and interactive exercises, including on-camera interview practise. Topics to be covered will include: what journalists want, selecting media friendly aspects of NGO work, clarity of language and message creation and presentation.

All expenses will be covered.

Participating NGOs should come from one of the following 17 EU states: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the UK.

The workshop is part of an 18-month project – The Ethical Journalism Initiative – conducted by the International Federation of Journalists in cooperation with the Media Diversity Institute and Article 19 to improve media coverage of ethnicity, race, religion and other forms of diversity, throughout the EU.
