Country: Morocco

In the framework of its project ‘Media Evolution: Towards Inclusive, Responsible & Independent Media in Morocco’, the Media Diversity Institute organized a roundtable debate under the theme ‘New Constitutional Changes: Media between Diversity and Pluralism’, on 30 September 2011 in Rabat, Morocco.

At the debate, leading experts on the media, media professionals, and civil society representatives discussed the future of the Moroccan media in relation to social and political diversity, in the context of recent political reforms and the implementation of a new constitution.

The event was organized in collaboration with the Moroccan Centre for Research on Human Rights and the Media, and with the financial support of the European Union Delegation in Rabat. It is one of 5 roundtable debates, among many other activities, including training for journalists and NGOs and production of TV programmes, that will be organised during the life of the project.

The objectives of the project are to encourage a public debate on the future of the Moroccan media, ensure greater coverage of social diversity in the media, improve freedom of expression and access to information, ensure greater responsibility by the media through self-regulation, and improve respect of media freedom by the government.
