Round Table Debate on the Legal Framework of the Media in Morocco

In the framework of its project ‘Media Evolution: Towards an Inclusive, Responsible & Independent Media in Morocco’, the Media Diversity Institute is organizing a round table debate under the theme ‘The Legal Framework of the Media in Morocco’, on 17 February 2012 in Rabat, Morocco.

At the debate, leading experts on the media and media law, media professionals, government officials and civil society representatives will discuss the legal framework in which the media in Morocco has to operate, in the context of recent political reforms and the implementation of a new constitution.

The event is organized in collaboration with the Moroccan Centre for Research on Human Rights and the Media, and with the financial support of the European Union Delegation inEuropean-Union-Flag_1 Rabat. It is one of 5 round table debates, among many other activities, including training for journalists and NGOs and TV programmes, that will be organised during the life of the project. The objectives of the project are to encourage a public debate on the future of the Moroccan media, ensure greater coverage of social diversity in the media, improve freedom of expression and access to information, ensure greater responsibility by the media through self-regulation, and improve respect of media freedom by the government.
